West è nato il 19 settembre 1928 a Walla Walla, Washington da Otto West Anderson e Audrey V. Speer e ha studiato alla Walla Walla High School, alla Lakeside School e al Whitman College. West è cresciuto a Walla Walla. West è stato sposato con Billie Lou Yeager dal 1950 fino al loro divorzio nel 1965. In seguito ha sposato Frisbie Dawson dal 1957 fino al loro divorzio nel 1962. West si è sposato con Marcelle Tagand Lear nel 1970. West ha sei figli. Ha vissuto a Ketchum, Idaho.

Il 9 giugno 2017, West è morto a Los Angeles dopo una battaglia contro la leucemia. Aveva 88 anni.

Carriera

I suoi primi lavori includono il film Robinson Crusoe su Marte (1964), nel ruolo del Col. Dan McCready, un astronauta che viene inviato in un viaggio sul pianeta rosso. Fu anche in Mara of the Wilderness (1965), e nello spaghetti western I quattro inesorabili (1965), dove interpretò il ruolo del pistolero Sam Garrett. Ha interpretato il ruolo del tenente John Delahay, nel western Geronimo (1962) con Chuck Connors.

Ha lavorato con The Three Stooges nel film The Outlaws Is Coming (1965). Interpretava il pistolero inesperto Kenneth Cabot, che viene aiutato dai Three Stooges.

Negli anni '70, '80 e '90 ha lavorato nei film Curse of the Moon Child (1972); Partizani (1974), un film di guerra con Rod Taylor; The Specialist (1975); The Happy Hooker Goes Hollywood (1980); One Dark Night (1983); Young Lady Chatterley II (1985); Zombie Nightmare (1986); Night of the Kickfighters (1988); Omega Cop (1990); Maxim Xul (1991); An American Vampire Story (1997); e Joyride (1997).

Le sue ultime apparizioni nei film sono state Buckaroo: The Movie (2005) nel ruolo del giudice, e Ratko: The Dictator's Son (2009), nel ruolo di Kostka Volvic.

Televisione

Nel 1966, Adam West fu scelto per interpretare il ruolo di Batman nella serie televisiva Batman. Questo show portò West alla fama. La serie piacque molto e ne fu tratto un film con lo stesso nome. Mise la sua voce nella serie animata The New Adventures of Batman (1977), SuperFriends: The Legendary Super Powers Show (1985) e The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians (1985). Il suo doppiaggio più noto è il suo lavoro nella serie animata Family Guy, nel ruolo del sindaco West.

Adam ha recitato in un film televisivo comico sui detective, Ace Diamond Private Eye (1983). L'attore ha anche avuto apparizioni come guest star in molte serie come Cheyenne, Colt 45, 77 Sunset Strip, Goodyear Theatre, Bonanza, The Rifleman, Mannix, Police Woman, Murder, She Wrote, e Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

Secondo i fumetti, Batman/Bruce Wayne è alto 1,2". Di tutti gli attori che hanno interpretato Batman, Adam West è l'unico ad avere la stessa altezza.
